How to run a salary cap league on Sleeper fantasy basketball
Sleeper runs your league’s rosters, lineups, scoring and draft. It does not have salary caps or player contracts. To play with them, a league either keeps a spreadsheet by hand or uses a companion site that reads the Sleeper league.
Franchise Manager is a free companion site that does this for Sleeper basketball leagues. With it, you can implement salary caps, player contracts with team and player options, contract extensions, free agency, trades checked against the cap, a trade finder, fair values for every player and team power rankings.
You can browse an example league before signing in.
What you need
- A Sleeper basketball league.
- A Google account to sign in with.
- Your Sleeper username and, if you are the commissioner, your League ID.
Setting up, for the commissioner
- Open franchisemanager.dev and click Continue with Google.
- Click Link League and enter your League ID and your Sleeper username.
- Check your Sleeper direct messages for FranchiseManagerBot and enter the verification code it sends you.
- Choose where contracts come from: real NBA salaries, your own CSV, or no contracts, in which case every team owner negotiates his own players’ first deals.
- Choose a cap system: a soft cap and a hard cap, a single hard cap, or simplified NBA rules with exceptions, aprons and trade matching.
- Create the league and share the join code with your team owners.
Every rule can be changed later in the Commish tab.
Joining, for team owners
- Ask your commissioner for the league join code.
- Sign in with Google, click Join League and enter the code.
- Enter your Sleeper username and the verification code that FranchiseManagerBot sends you on Sleeper.
During the season
- Contracts. Team owners sign and extend their own players in the Extensions tab. Players look at their fair value and demand a certain salary, which you can negotiate.
- Free agency. Team owners send contract offers to free agents until the deadline set by the commissioner. Players accept the highest offer.
- Trades. Trades are checked against the cap. Once a trade has been agreed, the commissioner approves it on the site and makes the same trade in Sleeper.
- Rosters. Franchise Manager checks your Sleeper rosters every 12 hours and flags the differences for the commissioner.
What stays on Sleeper
Lineups, scoring, matchups and the draft happen on Sleeper as usual. Franchise Manager reads your league through the public API that Sleeper offers. It cannot change anything in your Sleeper league, so a free agency signing or a trade made on Franchise Manager has to be made in Sleeper by the commissioner.
Cost
Franchise Manager is free. It has no official connection to Sleeper, the NBA or any players.
